Tree Carving

Spotted whilst out dog walkingtoday................why do people do this?

It is illegal to tree carve  in the UK.   A friend told me that they knew someone that was fined 10/- (50pence) back in the 1950's for defacing a tree, he carved his initials on it. Ten bob weas an awful lot of money then!

Tree carving has always bothered me. Aside from that, I love the angle you chose to photograph the tree. It really reinforces the magnitude of the tree and how the carving is defacing it.

I agree with Kim. Great pic though. I love the angle. It really adds to the largeness of the tree.
